Asparagus officinalis L.
This is a perennial, high-yielding, decorative plant that does not require any special growing conditions. Spears are light green with a mild taste. They can grow in the same location for 20 or more years. Plants survive winter temperatures as low as –30 °C. Plants grow up to 1.2 m in height. Plants can be harvested 3 years after sowing, once spears grow 1–1.5 cm in diameter.
